Wall of ephemera + a giveaway

This is a wall in my kitchen. I was going to call it my postcard wall, but then I remembered that there are still many things here that aren't postcards, though since joining Postcrossing the postcard ratio has gone up.

A few notes about my wall: I don't put everything up all at once, in fact if I wanted to put up all my postcards the wall would be full; I change things about all the time, taking things down, putting things up; usually the reason I take something down is because I have decided to send it to someone; some of these things I have had for years, one I got just today; there are awkward gaps that I am trying to fill; I know one day this will reach all the way to the ceiling but I am concerned about reaching that point and then having nowhere to stick new things.... then again, perhaps I can start on a new space.

I adore this wall. It is vivid, life-hugging, and constantly changing and shifting. It reminds me of where I've been and where I'm going. It reminds me to keep going my own way.

Oh, and if you feel like writing to me but are stuck for words, consider posting me a piece of ephemera for my wall. You know I'll love it.

50 followers give-away (but not the typical kind)

I have been thinking about a giveaway for a while, and having reached 50 followers today it seems like a great time to roll it out. But this is not your normal kind of giveaway because I wanted to do something that fit me.

So, here is how it will work: every three weeks I am going to pick a follower at random and post them a selection of ephemera (some, no doubt, will come from my wall). I can't tell you what will be in the package but it will be a unique collection of items, some that I have received by post, some that I have collected in other ways. It will be paper ephemera, perhaps a notecard or two, a menu, a bookmark, a postcard, a handmade envelope, a pretty piece of writing paper, a print or sketch. Or something else entirely. I'm not even going to hazard a guess at how many items I will send each time. Let's say more than 1 but less than 100. It will totally be up me and what I have at the time. I plan to put the package together before I draw the name so I can't even tweak it to suit what I think the recipient might want. Random!

My hope would be that the winning recipient keeps whatever he or she loves and posts on the other bits and pieces... but that is surely up to them.

I have chosen to do this every three weeks as monthly feels too far apart and weekly way too often. But I reserve the right to have a hiatus now and then or stop the giveaways all-together at some point in the future. However, I'm pretty keyed-up about doing this so I don't think I'll be giving it up for a while.

If I draw your name as a winner, then you will be excluded from the following two draws - just so that the love is spread around.

I am soon to head off on a little holiday so I will draw the first name when I get back on Monday (Oct 4). If you have any friends you know will want to be in on this they have til then to follow and be in the first draw.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Love from Kaz

  1. What a lovely idea, Kaz! I want to do a give-away on my blog too when I get enough 'followers" to do so and I think your idea of choosing random followers sounds wonderful. Have a fun vacation.
